The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

With the link Irons in the Fire posted, http://www.edict.com.hk/textanalyser/wordlists.htm maybe I can make my own 5,000 most used word list. They would be more recent than the Simplified book. My interest in shorthand was greatly increased by reading E H Butler’s History of British Shorthand which was published by Pitman in the early 1950’s and articles in the online encycopedias Wickepedia and 1911 Britannica. Butler rates Kingsford’s Oxford…
I was wondering why some words omit the vowels, even when they are stressed. For example, the word “incline” is written “e n”. The disjoined e only makes the incl sound, so why is there no simple for the hard ‘i’ sound? I’d think you’d write it “e i-n”. Same thing wish the “sup(e)r-” prefix….
In my strolls through Simplified, I’ve come across some words that look very strange, and others very beautiful, and I was wondering what other people thought of them or if there were others that should be on this list! So far these words’ve made me raise an eyebrow 😛superintendent (s n-ten-d nt)uninterrupted (n-n u-p-ted)incompatibility (n-k-p-a-t-b…
