Gregg Computer Shorthand

Hi everyone.  I received a book in an interlibrary loan from Montana named “Gregg Computer Shorthand For Shorthand Writers”.  It was printed way back in 1988 and was supposed to have a floppy with the program on it.  I called the library in Montana but they only had the book.  Have any of you heard…

Sad News

I just heard that Steve Rosen, the man who developed AlphaHand, passed away earlier this month. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago. He taught Business Education at NYU (or was it Columbia?) for a very long time before retiring in the early 1990s, I believe. The last time I spoke…

Individual Progress Method (DJS)

I have a box set called Gregg Shorthand Individual Progress Method (Diamond Jubilee Series) which was published by McGraw Hill in 1972.  It came with two spiral-bound books (a theory presentation book and a reinforcement book for practicing what you learned in the first book), plus a Self-Check notepad and a “Gregg Official Shorthand Notebook”. …

The Basic Principles of Gregg Shorthand

Hello, all. I was the winner on E-Bay of a copy of “The Basic Principles of Gregg Shorthand”, copyright 1923.  It’s in pristine shape (good thing, because it was a little pricey–but this title is hard to find!).  Fun thing is, it’s autographed by Dr. Gregg inside the front cover, with his distinctive signature, plus…

Any left-handers out there?

As you can guess by my name, I’m a leftie.  I find writing Gregg shorthand to be particularly challenging. I need to turn my paper almost completely sideways (counter-clockwise) in order to get the right slant and flow, and even then my m’s and n’s aren’t straight lines because I’m pushing the pen up the page instead…

Source of DJS reading material?

Is anybody aware of some good reading material for those that are trying to learn Diamond Jubilee?  The exercises in the books are exceedingly lame. I can read most of the Fables book from the angelfishy site, but it is written in Anniversary edition. Thanks, Lee (by leeroylee for everyone)

Gregg Shorthand Quick Reference

I crafted some of the resources from http://gregg.angelfishy.net into a quick reference PDF — thought some of you here might be interested in it.  It includes the 147ish DJS brief forms, and a key to the Gregg Alphabet. There’s a full page version of it, as well as a “4-up” version that you can cut…

Classroom instruction format anyone?

Can anyone out there tell me what the typical shorthand class was like in high school?  What did the students do each period?  I would like to try to emulate that in my self-study if I knew what to do, in what order, for how long, etc.  Thanks 🙂 ~ Kim (by leftiekim for everyone)

Tips for making my own dictation files?

Hi.  I’m new to this forum so please forgive me if this question has already been answered.  Since I can’t seem to find any commercially available dictation audios, I thought I would make my own.  I’m a beginner so I wanted to start out slow (40 wpm or so) and go up from there as…
