The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

Hello everybody…just joined. I wanted to learn shorthand because I have arthritis in my hands and thought it would reduce the movement. I have surprised myself by getting through chapter 7 of S90. Then, I found the anglefish site and looked at the Anniversary version…but it seems to move a little too fast for me….
Hi people, I read an article in an old magazine of shorthand in Spanish, and it’s mentioned that the X system uses 10% less of strokes than the Y system. Does anyone know how to count strokes? For example, in the picture I post: you can see in that “mister” in Gregg and “neck” in Pitman,…
Marc’s triple shorthand site is down. According to Yahoo, it has “exceeded its data transfer limit.” (by Carlos for everyone)
Hey, all. Saturday I received a book in the mail from Great Britain that I bought for $20 on E-Bay: “The Story of British Shorthand” by E.H. Butler, published by Pitman in 1951. I’ve only had a chance to glance through it, but it looks to be an interesting find . . . not so…
Does anyone have any information about Greghand, other than what is in the shorthand comparison document? I would *really* love to see this system, or at least know more about how it works. The manual itself seems incredibly difficult to get a hold of. As far as I can tell, there are only 4 libraries…
Hello: When I joined the group a message flashed informing me that ElAve was a name used here before. I don’t know how to change it so I’ll just leave it as my nickname unless someone advises me that ElAve has a history here. I’m new and I don’t want to be confused with someone…
Anyone know what’s up with Andrew Owens’s Gregg site? I can’t reach it through the normal link, and when I enter the www.angelfishy.net address I also get a “page cannot be displayed” message. Curious. Alex (by alex for everyone)
I have been interested in shorthand for a very long time, and have tried to learn various versions since I was about 10 years old. However, every time I try to learn one of the versions of Gregg, I run into conceptual difficulties. Even though many of the rules are spelled out and are clear,…
I’m curious to know if anyone else in this group had experience with Gregg Notehand. It had a short life span (editions were published in 1960 and 1968), and doesn’t get mentioned in descriptions of the different versions of Gregg. Notehand was my “classroom” introduction to shorthand, in the 1968-69 school year. It was the…
