Simplified Manual #530, Chapter 65 again
I posted about this before, but I can’t find the post, so I have to ask again. I have a mental block against that word. It is a bad form.
The sentence: When you use our lists, you have the assurance that your message is bing delivered to those merchants throughout the country who are ******* (looks like memmer) for your goods–and to nobody else.
Can somebody tell me again what that word is?

I replied by e-mail, but the formatting was garbled . . . guess that's not the way to go! Your outline means "in the market", I believe. Not the most transparent form of phrasing, in my opinion. Alex
Thank you, Alex. That makes sense in the context. I will write that in the book now because IMO the phase needs an "in".
Oh, the "in" is already there . . . the phrase is n-mr (in ['the' omitted] market) with the n-m stroke used to combine the two brief forms. That's why it isn't as transparent as most phrases. I guess if you were doing a lot of commercial correspondence, "in the market" would come up often enough to be obvious. Alex
I suppose if someone had occasion to use that phase a lot it would be meaninful.
Here's another phrase I can't get. It's Chapter 75, #533. When your letter arrived, we made an immediate investigation [missing word?] "with our format". It looks like "with our format," but that doesn't make sense. spelled out e-over th-r-f-m-a-t
Another one that's not very transparent! I think it's supposed to be "with reference to the matter", another standard business phrase that isn't much used any more. Alex
For goodness sakes! LOL. I would have never gotten that one. Thanks again, Alex
Phrasing is something that was less emphasized in Simplified (as compared to previous series), to avoid improvisation by the student in building phrases and hence retarding speed. However, phrasing is very important. It is a tool that if practiced well, it helps in speed.
When you are first learning Gregg, phrasing principles are illustrated with a relatively small number of phrases. That's one of the reasons why the examples of phrases in the first book are less. However, as you progress, more phrases will appear in subsequent books within Simplified: dictation, transcription, and speed building. The phrases are classified according to words, or to a particular principle. FYI, below is a list of the phrases that appear in Gregg Shorthand for Colleges Book 2 (1st Ed):
