Shorthand without much practice

G’day all. Some of you may recognize me, as I seem to go through periods where I’m really active on this board, and then periods where I don’t post for a while. Anyway, onto my question. I was wondering if it would be possible to learn shorthand without a lot of “sit down and study for…

Gregg system for Italian language?

Hi everybody, does anyone of you knows how the Gregg system was adapted to Italian? In Italy, Gregg was never much used (we have four Italian systems), but I know that an adaptation of Gregg to the Italian language does exist. Can anyone help me? I’m also interested in the Spanish adaptation of Gregg… on…

Learning Simplified

Hello all, I’m a college student who recently found out about shorthand (I guess I never really considered what was done before modern stenography machines), and have decided to learn Gregg Simplified. This will be something just done for fun in my spare time, as it seems like a good skill to have. It might…

Exclamation point

As far as I know, there is no Gregg symbol for the exclamation point. So I use two Gregg periods (the short down-sloping stroke), which I find faster and more compact to write than the ” ! “. (by stratshaw for everyone)

Practice tips

Here’s an technique I use to practice. Just thought I’d pass it along.  Maybe others use it also. I use flashcards, one side has English, one side has Gregg. I spend some time looking at the Gregg and making sure I can translate it, then spend some time looking at the English and writing the…

Functional Method Chap XI & XII Transcriptions

I am in the last chapter (XII) of the Functional Method (Anniversary).  There are still a few tricky words and phrases where I need/miss the transcription key at the end of the book.  Someone took my crutches away! This morning, I was tripped up on the phrase ‘at all events’  (t-o-e-v) in Chapter 12 until I finally found it…

“Forever” question

I was looking at the shorthand comparisons chart showing The Lord’s Prayer in different versions and was struck by the word “forever” is Gregg, which is written disjoined f ev. I have always written forever as f (for) e v joined. I looked in my 1916 dictionary to see if there was a conflicting word…
