Speed Records – Pitman vs. Gregg

The introductory chapter of the 1922 edition of Gregg Reporting Shortcuts is a long report on speed results of various systems – explaining how when Pitman was introduced for some 50-plus years the entrenhed reporters who used older systems claimed that Pitman lacked the speed possibilities for reporting usage. Then when the older systems fell…

The Raleigh Rainbows

Does anyone know anything of a book entitled “The Raleigh Rainbows”, (Story in Shorthand) by S. Gertrude Harvey and E.D. Girrioer? I can’t find anything on the net regarding this book in a non-shorthand printing. It makes me wonder if the only printing was in shorthand, even though that seems unlikely. (by rdd331 for everyone)

Signed Copies…Rare?

Yesterday I received a book in the mail ordered from Abe (Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to his Son – Written in Gregg Shorthand). (Just jumping in- I don’t read all the posts.) Similarly with mechanical pencils, but there the leads would likely snap. So what about…

Teach Yourself Gregg?

Being a former Pitman student, I have noted that the Pitman people had quite a bit of success with a series of books called Teach Yourself Pitman; one could choose either Pitman New Era or Pitman 2000. The teaching methods were exactly suited for self-instruction; other manuals, designed for classroom instruction, really don’t cut the…

Taquigrafía Morma

Luis Morales Matus created a new shorthand system for Spanish language, and the method was published in 1926: “Curso de Taquigraf챠a Superior”. First, Morales used Marti’s shorthand system when he applied for a position in Chilean Representative Chamber, but he didn’t get success in the contest. Then, he decided to create a new system that…

Shorthand Written by Dr. Gregg!

There was some consolation in being thwarted in my attempt to dive down the rabbit hole. After H.G. dropped in and we had seen The Rise of the Silver Surfer – great fun for you Marvel fans, you’ll howl at Stan Lee’s cameo … in fact I heard a rumor he’s planning on retiring from…
