Workbook for Shorthand Excellence, from the Civil Service Commission, 1971: pdf file

This refresher course was amongst the files I found earlier today:

I’ll be working my way through this one, too!

  1. Shoalbear, I'm working through the Anniversary Manual. If you're interested in Anniversary, you can use the one on the Angelfishy site, or get one through ebay or abebooks.com. Here's the pdf file for the Anniversary Manual:

I sometimes use the Pre-Anniversary Manual, and the exercises for beginners on the Angelfishy site. You can download the Gregg Word and Sentence Drills from this site:

It reviews what's in the chapters in the manual.

I make up exercises and flash cards, and am working on the Champion Handwriting, as that style makes the Gregg outlines easier for me.

Here's the Champion Handwriting Manual: http://www.iampeth.com/books/champion/the_champion_method_index.php

The Penmanship Pointers in these professional journals show how the Gregg outlines come from handwriting. I think these exercises are super:

Perhaps one of the experts will post soon.

  2. Yes. It is titled "Gregg Shorthand; Progressive Exercises", and it comes in both Anniversary (1929) and Pre-Anniversary (1916) editions. For the later series, you can get the workbook.

  3. You mentioned that there is a workbook for "Gregg Shorthand: Progressive Exercises", 1929, if I understood your post correctly.

    Thanks!

  4. Whew! Good. I've ordered one. Am hoping it will be in usable shape. Booksellers do describe the conditions so differently. I could only find two offered on the internet. I bought the less expensive one. Am discovering I need to get these things when they come up, and not wait.

    Mcbud, thank you!

  5. I used Amazon for this. I tend to use abebooks, because the prices are usually lower. The last two times I've used Amazon, here and in the UK.

  6. Mcbud, I was able to get a copy of the Progressive Exercises, publ. 1929. It has the advantage and disadvantage of having all the answers written in it, by Miss Leona Solmon, who wrote a lovely hand. It's a nice workbook. Thank you for recommending it!

  7. Yes, I thought I'd cover the answers. After I've done an exercise, it'll be handy to compare it to Miss Solmon's. Her handwriting is so nice, and the pen she used wrote a clear, fine line.
