  1. Oh, I guess it's a phrase, "to advantage." It's in the previous sentence too. Every once in a while I come across a phrase that I've not heard much. Thanks for the heads up! By the way, I'm really enjoying that Congressional Record Vocab. It's got some great abbreviations.

  2. The word is "advantage", but it is used as a noun in the sentence. The full sentence reads "A dark object is shown to best advantage against a light background."
