The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

Does anyone have a copy of Direct Practice Units for Beginning Gregg Shorthand here? I have it nearly ready to post, but am chagrined to discover that a page is apparently missing from my copy. Unit 7 should include three pages, (maybe four.) I have the first two pages, but the last one is missing….
A self-published vocabulary of Biblical, religious and general, related terms by Bernard P. Foote. I am sorry that the quality of this document is not great. The copy was faded and some of the outlines are difficult to read. Experienced writers can supply the defects, but it still underscores the importance of preserving these old…
Direct-Method Materials was first released in 1933. (The 2nd edition in 1942 included a much improved word and phrase index.) More useful reading material to accompany the Manual. And here’s the key! Attachment: Teachers Key to Direct-Method Materials.pdf
These two selections appeared in the April 1942 issue of The Gregg Writer. Click on the image for a full view. Attachment: oga-jr-apr42.gif Attachment: oga-sr-apr42.gif
This entertaining short novel was penned in 1918 by the prolific Mary Roberts Rinehart, and written in Anniversary over six installments of The Gregg Writer (April to June and September to November 1942). Although the shorthand version is an adaptation, Google Books has the original 1918 book as a free download, in case you need…
Hi All, Does anyone know of a good, inexpensive, optical character recognition program. I’d like to give it scans (probably jpg) of text for it to convert. Also, does anyone have a way to convert pdf’s to jpg’s (or whatever the OCR program takes)? Thanks, Cricket (by Cricket for everyone)
I am converting to Anniversary from Simplified because my hand rather than my head often slows me down. I write longhand very slowly and laboriously, and a number of the longer Simplified outlines take me a long time to write, even though I recall them very clearly. Writing E-S-R for instead of E-Left S-E-R-S-I-S “exercise” and E-S-L…
