The “word sign” for the word “upon” given in both the 1902 and the 1916 manuals is “pn.” In the Anniversary manual the brief from given for “upon” is “pon.” The Simplified manual reverts to the earlier brief form. I understand the principle that  vowels which are scarcely pronounced or are pronounced as schwas may be omitted from shorthand outlines; but I find that in some dictionary outlines such unimportant vowels are included, whereas in other dictionary outlines phonetically important vowels are omitted.
