  1. These letters demonstrate what an important part each issue of The Gregg Writer played in the classroom. Note there are great examples of "improvised" shortcuts which may not be 100% in accordance with the system but are immediately recognizable and easy to transcribe. I'm still not convinced the 1949 "Simplification" was a good idea … it seems better to reflect the declining grammar learning and active vocabulary employed by students following WWII. Not to be snide but I would believe a high school graduate of 60 years ago had better reading and writing skills than today's graduates.
