The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

Hi everyone! OK, this question is more directed at Carlos, but I couldn’t figure out how to send a PM on the new system, so here goes: I ran a little shorthand blog for French Gregg earlier last year (I warn you before you click the link, the shorthand is rather horrendous and I haven’t been…

If we have P-R for present and P-R-ISH for presentation and R-P for represent and R-P-ISH for representation, why is it E-S-P-R for express BUT E-X-P-R-E-ISH for expression? What’s the rule for adding the final E? This was one of those things I did automatically and then went back and checked. Yes, I did it…
I’m messing around with Mnemosyne, a spaced repetition program designed to aid learning through a “flash card” approach. Now I need a couple of people to install the software (it’s free) and test the sample database that I uploaded. It’s a snip from the Lesson 6 Recall Chart from the Gregg Simplified Functional Method (1ed)….

Hello everybody! I have had a Gregg Simplified Dictionary for several years. The problem is, I don’t need it, and it’s damaged. One of the inside connections to the spine is completely torn. It could probably be repaired but I don’t need it. I am willing to mail it away for free if anyone will take it.
I’m sure there’s a logical explanation that I’m missing on something: I’m confused on when you would use the disjoined T to represent past tense for example the word Desired you use the disjoined T (section 53) but when you get to section 135 why is the word Mailed written m-a-ld instead of m-a-l-disjoined T?
This story by Mark Twain was originally published in 1893 in the book The £1,000,000 Bank-note: And Other Stories (available in Google Books). The story was written in Anniversary and serialized in the January to April 1939 issues of The Gregg Writer. It was released in 1954 as a movie (The Million Pound Note), starring…
I’ve finally gotten back to coding the Gregg 2013 shorthand suite, and now that I’ve made substantial progress (that is, compared to last time), I need the group’s help for compiling the outline dictionaries. Just like last time, because it’s the only version I know, I only have the outline dictionary for Anniversary. https://github.com/chance528/gregg/blob/devel/data/1929.ags The file…
