I finally bought a copy of this, copyright 1931, printing June 1947.
There are numbers to the left of the words, such as:
1 a
1 am
…
5 ache
4 acre
….
Could someone please post what these numbers mean?
Thanks very much. 🙂
The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

Sure. The numbers refer to the placement of the word with respect to frequency: 1 means the word is in the first 1000 most frequent, 2 means in the second thousand, etc. The index in the back of the book explains it.
Carlos, thank you very much for your kind help. 🙂
You're welcome!
