This is an excerpt from an article that appeared in the March 2, 1962 issue of Time Magazine about John Glenn’s first orbit in space that I wrote in Simplified Gregg for the blog.

  1. Awesome!!! Loved reading all these space terms in shorthand! This really appeals to my inner space nerd. Great fun!

Carlos, what ink/pen/paper combo do you use to get such lovely and clear fine lines with your shorthand?

Many thanks! And happy new year!

    1. Happy New Year, and thank you! It was a fun one to write!

I've been experimenting with different pens, but for these I've been using a Uniball Signo Micro 207 (0.5 mm) on 24 lb bond (multipurpose), scanned at 600 dpi. To be honest, it is not the best combination, as I have problems with the ink flow with this pen on that paper. However, it is good enough for the blog and still it is readable. I'm using the cheap paper because the pen ink dries very quickly, so I don't need to worry about smudges. If I were to use these for publication, I would use a heavier paper, perhaps a glossy: the ink would flow much better, but would have to be more careful about not touching the written lines!

Uniball makes the 307, an upgrade to the 207 that supposedly doesn't skip, so I may try it next if I can find it locally. But I have other pens that I want to try as well, since the 207 that I have is running out of ink!
