Mr. Pickwick’s Proposal to Mrs. Bardell

Charles Dickens was still a young Parliamentary reporter — having learned Gurney Shorthand — when he wrote his first novel, The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club, otherwise known as The Pickwick Papers. The novel’s chapters were serially published over 20 months, from March 1836 to October 1837. This particular episode appears in Chapter 12. I transcribed it in Anniversary Gregg for the blog.
