This letter from American lawyer, author of Ben Hur, and governor of New Mexico, General Lew Wallace, to his son Henry, while traveling to Turkey along with his wife Susan in the late 1800s. It appeared in her book Along the Bosphorus, which recounted their travel experiences. In the letter he describes how he arranged a special gift to be given to the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire at the time, Abdul Hamid II. I transcribed it in Anniversary Gregg for the blog.
