The Sign Language was serialized in 1916 Pre-Anniversary shorthand in the Gregg Writer from September through December 1924. The story appeared in Harper’s magazine in 1917. The author, Charles Caldwell Dobie, worked in the insurance industry until he could devote his career to full-time writing.
