The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

The Sign Language was serialized in 1916 Pre-Anniversary shorthand in the Gregg Writer from September through December 1924. The story appeared in Harper’s magazine in 1917. The author, Charles Caldwell Dobie, worked in the insurance industry until he could devote his career to full-time writing. A Man’s Chance was serialized in 1916 Pre-Anniversary shorthand in the Gregg Writer from November 1919 through January 1920. At the very end of the story, the author is credited as “William E.
