Melville Bell’s Steno-Phonography?
Anyone know anything about Melville Bell’s Steno-Phonography? Evidently popular among linguists of the 19th century. (by routine-sibling for everyone)
The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

I don’t know if this thread was created before, because I don’t know how to look for a subject thread in MSN groups, anyway, here I go: Does anyone have information about Pitman in full? I mean: versions, languages, country, author, publishing years, etc. in files: word, PDF, etc. (by valo1969 for everyone)
Hi Everybody 🙂 I’m a big penmanship nerd in general, my longhand included, and am the only person I know who regularly “improves” his writing style by replacing letter forms, ligatures, and by practicing penmanship. I think my current writing most resembles Zapfino, except with longer T ascenders and reversed-curving Ls like the Ds. Anyway,…
The New York Times crossword puzzle recently (No. 0617, which I presume to be June 17), contained the following clue: “Position that’s an anagram, appropriately, of ‘notes’. ” Why didn’t I get it instantly? Cheers, Don Ramsey (by allbooksconsidered for everyone)
Luis Morales Matus created a new shorthand system for Spanish language, and the method was published in 1926: “Curso de Taquigraf챠a Superior”. First, Morales used Marti’s shorthand system when he applied for a position in Chilean Representative Chamber, but he didn’t get success in the contest. Then, he decided to create a new system that…
I finally got a copy of Taquigrafia Gregg. The copyright/publishing date is 1923. I’m learning Anniversary, and wanted the most comparable edition for Spanish. But the next edition I could find on Amazon or Ebay was from the 1940s. Priscilla (by gwriter53 for everyone)
Hello All, I hope it is clear that I joined this group because of my family history (Astrid Ramsey, platewriter), and not for the purpose of selling books. However, it just happens that this morning I walked past my Business section and spied the following 3 books lying on the edge of the shelf, virtually shouting…
Finished creating a pdf of Henry Sweet’s “Current Orthographic Shorthand”. Haven’t found a place to post it publicly yet, but I can email it to anyone who’s interested and has 14MB of inbox space. (And if that doesn’t narrow it down), I’ll warn that the edition I scanned and set was a degraded microform printing…
