The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

I just noticed this morning that there is a copy of “Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to His Son” being offered at a reasonable price (nice little Gregg volume for those looking for some “literature”). There’s also a copy of Gregg’s “The Teaching of Shorthand”, signed by Dr. Gregg himself, and also at a reasonable…
We’ve improved the “slow it down!” program for computerized dictation. The program is at:http://www.onebit.ca/cgi-bin/short.py This online program (source code available on request) will insert ssml codes into normal text. The resulting text file is then fed into a free text-to-speech program, and the resulting sound file can be saved to disk. We’ve added extra time…
I hate to make a whole thread just for this, but I can’t for the life of me figure out a sentence. On page 467 of the second book, section 391., the first part of the first sentence makes no sense to me: The leader f-tm-b (for the time being?) who have e-m-a-b (he maybe?)…
I seem to recall reading on this site somewhere that there was still one company around that produces steno pads for four-voice proceedings, with extra lines down the left-hand side of each column. Can anyone share the link, and put it up in the Links section if possible? Thanks 🙂 (by niftyboy1 for everyone)
Hi all. I’ve been foraying into the world of court-reporting with Anniversary Gregg and my stenotype machine at a local legal college. It struck me that though I have a miniature library of shorthand books, none of them are tailored to legal work. I found a pdf of sample testimonies and depositions on this site,…
Hello, I’m interested in learning shorthand and have looked for information about it several times but just recently decided to give it a go. I’m a medical resident and often find myself wanting to take detailed notes, especially at didactic style conferences so I can review them later. I was going to make up my…
Has anyone ever heard of Alphabet Shorthand in 15 Days, and how easy it was to learn? I was thinking about checking it out from one of the 20 libraries in our new library network. Thanks! (by slowshorthandlearner for everyone)
Hi, everyone. I decided to do a career change recently. I’m sick of IT and I want to go into teaching. So, I’m now pursuing a Masters in Education. I was reading the book, How To Study and it mentioned some easy shorthand techniques. I did a web search and instantly I saw Gregg. Now,…
