Tom Proves a Point

The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

I’m creating shortcuts for computer terms. I’m using this list as a reference, which is pretty comprehensive. If you have a term that would like to have a shortcut for, could you please let me know?
So as you may already know I am both an avid student of Gregg shorthand as well as machine stenography. Next quarter I begin my senior year of linguistics study at the UW. My conundrum is that I would traditionally use Gregg to take notes but now that I have my steno machine I’m presented…
This is a more recent (2009) article on Stella Butterfield, perhaps the last pen court reporter in the Las Vegas area. If you don’t recall Stella, she was mentioned on this previous post, from a 2001 article in the Las Vegas Review Journal. I would love to meet her (and get some BBQ sauce too!!).

This article is from the Washington Times, Jan. 16, 2005. It was one of the catalysts that spurred me back into my old dream of learning shorthand. 🙂 Twelve students enrolled in an evening study program aren’t much of a crowd, but to Allen Trenum, a coordinator of adult education for Montgomery County Public Schools,…
I’m assuming that we all like writing Gregg, but once in a while we come up with something about the system, or about the book, or about the method of study, or about the materials that we don’t like. I created this thread to collect all of those thoughts. Please feel free to share your…

Cursed, I tell you. Cursed. I’ve recorded it four times so far. I even went down to 40wpm for recording, since the quality survives speeding up much better than slowing down. It might not be worth the effort at that speed, since I can usually reach close to that by reading either the plate or…
