The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

Wanting to speed up my transcribing practice, I recently tried doing away with that extra step of looking from the text to my own pen; I just read while letting my hand “follow” the outlines on a separate page off to the side. It was certainly speedy. But I was surprised to also find how…
I’m a bit confused about when the abbreviating principle is applied in Anniversary. The ‘small but useful group of words’ in Unit 25: do they have anything in common apart from being common? Do you just have to remember them? Unit 26: I can understand writing as far as the accented syllable, or beyond, if…
I’m sorry I don’t have a scanner, but my copy of Simplified (Candian Edition,1958 printing), page 63, shows this kind of outline in the context “…large supply of travelling bags ____ and other leather goods.” I think it must be “wallets”, but where’s the “t”? Am I missing a principle? (by routine-sibling for everyone)
I work for an airline and was taking down some notes from a booking. I had to take down three letter city codes and found that it is easiest to do in Teeline shorthand, which is NOT phonetic, but alphabetic. I had to take down LHR (London Heathrow) and MAA (Madras) and DXB (Dubai). Now…
I have a brief paragraph that my mother wrote in shorthand that I need help translating. I have already had two people look at it, and they could only decipher a word here and there. I am hoping that some of you can help me fill in the missing pieces. I believe these lines are…
Browsing through the 1916 Manual last night and stopped at the word ‘regret’. Am I imagining things or is this a misprint?Compare it in the earlier manuals. In the Anniversary edition it seems to have been ‘corrected’ – or was there a definite reason for writing it that way? (by anniversary2696 for everyone)
Hi fellows of this ring, I have read here (http://www.taquibras.com.br/not_134.htm) that Brazilian shorthand writers celebrate their day on May 3rd. Does anyone know if there is a Shorthand International Day? Regards, Osvaldo Castro (by valo1969 for everyone)
