Real Time Videos?

If it were feasible, I would be very interested in downloading and viewing Gregg Shorthand being recorded verbatim in real time with the sound of speaker in the recording as well. I am new to the hobby and have been soaking it up steadily for about six months now, but the more I practice the…

An interesting news article

Below is a very interesting article celebrating the 100th b’day of a lady in Utah. http://www.sltrib.com/sugarhouse/ci_3968224 Doing the math, she’s probably one of the surviving few that can say that learned Anniversary (or Pre-Anniversary) Gregg in college! May she live 100 more!!!! (by Carlos for everyone)

Forkner, please

Apart from symbol systems, I’ve always been interested in alphabetic shorthand systems.  I can write the older version of Speedwriting, Pitmanscript (thanks Ian!) and just received from Amazon a textbook on Personal Shorthand (the ABC one). I have, however, heard that of all the alphabetic shorthand systems, the least ambiguous of all is Forkner.  I’ve…

Best version of Sloan-Duploye?

All,    Could someone recommend for me what they think is the best adaptation to English of the Sloan-Duploye system?  I gather from some of the posts that S-D is quite fast, but that Perrin’s adapation is not the best. Thanks! Tom (by tom_in_co for everyone)

Hello, need advice to choose a variant, especially for foreign languages

The reason why I want to learn shorthand is to handle lecture notes and interviews, which means I’ve got…

Question for Ian- Sweet’s Current Shorthand

Ian, I read your post that contained your liking for Sweet’s Current Shorthand. I was sufficiently intrigued to do some research and discovered that there is a reprint manual available- $50 US. I’m willing to part with that if it’s really a viable system. I noted that GB Shaw was familiar with it Sweet’s but…

Cook’s Memoscript shorthand

Does anyone know anything about this method? I noted that Cook claimed it was great for verbatim court reporting, student’s notes, general corresondence, etc. Presumably also for dirty dishes and the mumps! 🙂 I believe it’s a light line system & so thought that perhaps it was Gregg-related. Cheers, Tom (by tom_in_co for everyone)

“The Sign of (the) Four”

I received a nice copy through Abebooks, and the first thing I noticed was that in my “Complete Sherlock Holmes,” the title is not “The Sign of the Four” but “The Sign of Four.”  Maybe in the U.S. the name was altered?  Anybody know? The shorthand in it is disappointing to me because it is…
