I like the brief form for because in pre-Simplified. No good reason … just cuz.

The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

Me too. Easier to write than the whole thing.
I use b-k, which as Carlos has pointed out was the brief form used in the original Gregg edition. It feels more natural to me. I also use if to represent 'book'. No conflict because they are different parts of speech.
That one does seem to be more practical.
Be aware that b-k can't be used for "cause", which k-s was. That's why it was changed in the 1898 edition: cause-because as k-s, book-become as b-k.
Interesting, Carlos – that makes a lot of sense. But with Simplified or later, writing 'cause' out in full [k-o-s] seems as facile (and pretty much as quick) as k-s.
I write k-s with one motion of the pen very quickly. But I agree with you, k-o hook-left s is very quick too. It's a preference, that's all.
