Angles and size of strokes for beginners

Take a look at paragraph 277 of the regular Simplified Manual (‘Accuracy Practice’) This paragraph illustrates the correct slant for the downward curved strokes (note that they have been enlarged in this paragraph for clarity). Teach Yourself Shorthand (printed in London, 1943 and 1944)

The latest addition to my collection. The book is subtitled “An Exposition of the Gregg System for Self Tuition”, and is authored by Ernest W. Crockett and F Addington Symonds. It is very obviously an expansion of the earlier New Rapid Course (by 70 pages), which I mentioned in an earlier post (http://gregg-shorthand.com/2014/09/10/gregg-shorthand-new-rapid-course-1940/). I have checked the “Guide to the John Robert Gregg Papers (Manuscripts and Archives Division)” from the New York Public Library’s site, and the item appears to be in Box 65. The NYPL…

Most Used Shorthand Words And Phrases (Simplified)

Along with the Simplified Manual, the Dictionary (and a copy of the DJS Manual which I bought by mistake!), I now have the Most Used Shorthand Words and Phrases book (as recommended by Carlos). This book is brilliant! It’s boosted my confidence by providing answers the sort of “silly” questions I have, like: “I wonder…

Reversed circle

I am having trouble getting my head round when to “reverse a circle to express r” in Anniversary. Would it be possible for somebody to explain where one cannot “reverse a circle to express r”; perhaps this would be clearer?
