The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.
Look what I managed to get hold of! Very out-of-print, Gregg Hebrew was compiled by Chaim Bar-Kama (who was running classes in it even before the State of Israel was founded in 1948) in two editions dated 1952 and 1971. It’s based on Simplified and goes from left-to-right just like English Gregg.
Last night, I got a new book from Dublin, the Irish adaptation of Gregg Shorthand, which in their language is called “Luathscríbhinn Gregg” (said like “loo-uh-skree-vin Gregg,” I believe). I was reading the Anniversary edition of the manual again, and I read how it had been adapted to Gaelic. The edition this was written in is the 1919 Anniversary manual. Can we be sure that the Irish edition is out of copyright by now, or may there be later editions?
