Past Tense or ld

I’m sure there’s a logical explanation that I’m missing on something: I’m confused on when you would use the disjoined T to represent past tense for example the word Desired you use the disjoined T (section 53) but when you get to section 135 why is the word Mailed written m-a-ld instead of m-a-l-disjoined T?

Gregg Shorthand as a foreign language equivalent

Here’s an interesting little pamphlet from 1926 entitled Gregg Shorthand as an Equivalent of Two Years’ Course in a Foreign Language. It was written by Elizabeth Starbuck Adams, who is particularly noted as the author of Introduction to Transcription from the Anniversary period.  Attachment: Gregg Shorthand – Foreign Language.pdf

Let Us Know

Hi Everyone, I noticed today while reading Plate 236 in my Simplified manual the phrase “let us know”. I know that the brief form for let is L-E but I don’t ever recall learning L-E-S for “let us”. My first read-through of this plate I didn’t think anything of it because of the context of…

Need help for software

I’ve finally gotten back to coding the Gregg 2013 shorthand suite, and now that I’ve made substantial progress (that is, compared to last time), I need the group’s help for compiling the outline dictionaries. Just like last time, because it’s the only version I know, I only have the outline dictionary for Anniversary. https://github.com/chance528/gregg/blob/devel/data/1929.ags The file…

First off, much thanks to whoever posted the Anniversary Vocabulary Builder from 1942.  I think that book is an excellent learning tool. But I have a question on page 79, Section 33, Paragraph 157, on Intersections.  I cannot find anywhere how “parcel post” should be written as an intersection.  I went through the Manual and…

The New Standard Course of Gregg Shorthand

“The New Standard Course of Gregg Shorthand” was the working title of the shorthand series that would replace the Anniversary series, which became the Simplified series when published. In a previous post, I showed how the list of brief forms for the “New Standard Course” was very different from the Simplified series, resembling the Anniversary…

Side versus Sides

I know my beloved Anniversary is fickle and inconsistent and sometimes drives me crazy.  I’m going to vent: And I can understand why, if “side” is written S-I, “sides” written as S-I-S can easily be transcribed wrong as “size.”  But why have “side” write S-I and yet “sides” as S-I-D-S?  That’s so obviously inconsistent. For…

The Word “Finance”

Good evening everyone 🙂 I am studying tonight and I am a little perplexed with something. How come the word “finance” is not written with the broken circle (like in the word “file” for example)? I even double-checked the outline in my Simplified dictionary.

Court Reporting Contest: How fast is fast?

This is kind of fun. I don’t know if it’s already been covered here, but I didn’t find it. In  the course of reading old threads and following links I came across this  video. This shows machine reporting, but this woman shares with us some of how she prepares for contests. How Does 280 WPM…
