I have returned
Well, I’m done with Finals and christmas (I got an A on all of them, whee!) and soon I shall resume my study of Gregg. I am currently at my Uncle’s house and I’m showing him the manual.
The Gregg Group was founded 22 May 2004, prompted by the lack of online shorthand resources. As the primary use for shorthand — business and legal recording — has waned in recent decades, we generally acclaim the skill as a hobby or personal tool. The purpose of the group is to promote the use of Gregg systems of shorthand by providing advice to beginners, support for students, and an association of users of this efficient, attractive, and enjoyable method of writing.

As I re-reach the halfway point in coding Gregg.Convert(ex-Greggory) (I had to start over in C#), I realized that I needed to have a permanent reference implementation for AGS set before I actually move on to doing the layout stuff. So I created a little so-called “standard” document I call SS 1:2012, detailing all the mappings between…
I want to make a small post to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I would like to take a moment to let all of you know how much I appreciate the help, advice and encouragement you’ve given me in my pursuit of learning shorthand. Stay safe and enjoy your Christmas day….
I’m doing a birds-eye view of Simplified, at least the parts I’ve done so far. It’s a good review, and will help me decipher unknown words. So far, all the disjoined prefixes are above the words, and the disjoined suffixes are below. (At least they start below. “thousand dollars” travels upwards.) I haven’t seen any…
This is a self-published workbook for vocabulary with dictation material from 1942 by Mary H. Inglis of Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. The vocabulary is drawn primarily from 5,000 Most-Used Shorthand Forms, like which the chapters and units are all keyed to the Anniversary Manual. The pages were all single-sided, which explains why the page…
I’m reading through the reviews of “The Gregg Shorthand Manual Simplified (Hardcover)” in Amazon, and while the reviews are mostly very positive, I found three of them hilarious. In the first one, the reviewer gave the book one star, and titled the review “Old Stuff!.” It reads: “The book is copyrighted 1955; it talks of…

Is there a recommended abbreviation for PC (as in personal computer)? Would it be an intersection of P and K, from personal and computer? Or p-e-s-e, from the way it’s spoken? Also, I can’t find “microwave” in my dictionary, which surprised me. I have been spelling it m-i-k-r-o-a-v, leaving out the w because it seemed…
I read about when you guys were talking about the Shorthand Suite that Tyler was talking about (“SH List Demo.zip”), and I said “Hey, maybe I could do that.” Thus the 2013 Shorthand Suite. I haven’t really started anything yet, aside from the already-ongoing Greggory text-to-shorthand converter, which I might release around March/April. On deck…
